How to use this scientific calculator

Enter an expression with the keypad or your keyboard, then select equals or press Enter. Parentheses control the order of operations. The caret symbol raises a value to a power, so 2^8 equals 256. Use sqrt() for square roots, log() for base-10 logarithms, and ln() for natural logarithms. The previous result is stored as Ans until the page is refreshed.

Degrees and radians

DEG mode interprets trigonometric inputs as degrees and returns inverse-trigonometric results in degrees. For example, sin(30) equals 0.5 in DEG mode. RAD mode uses radians, so sin(pi/6) equals 0.5. The selected mode affects sin, cos, tan, asin, acos, and atan; it does not change ordinary arithmetic.

Supported functions and operators

Arithmetic+ − × ÷ and parentheses(18 + 6) / 4 = 6
Powers and roots^, sqrt(), x², 1/xsqrt(81) + 3^2 = 18
Trigonometrysin, cos, tan, asin, acos, atancos(60) = 0.5 in DEG mode
Logarithmslog, ln, explog(1000) = 3
Other!, abs, floor, ceil, round, min, max, mod5! = 120

Percent calculations

The percent key wraps the current expression and divides it by 100. To find 15% of 240, enter 240 * 15%, which returns 36. To increase 80 by 25%, enter 80 * (1 + 25%), which returns 100. This explicit notation avoids ambiguity about whether a percentage should be added, subtracted, or multiplied.

Memory and history

M+ adds the current numeric result to memory, M− subtracts it, MR inserts the stored value, and MC clears memory. The history list keeps the latest eight calculations for the current page session. Select a previous calculation to place its expression back in the input. Nothing is sent to a server for calculation.

Precision and limitations

Results use JavaScript number precision and are displayed with up to 14 significant digits. Very large factorials, values near trigonometric discontinuities, and repeated operations can show rounding effects. The calculator limits expression length and accepts a defined set of numeric functions. It is intended for everyday, classroom, and planning calculations, not for proofs or safety-critical engineering work.

Frequently asked questions

Why does sin(30) change between DEG and RAD?

The number 30 represents 30 degrees in DEG mode but 30 radians in RAD mode. Choose the unit used by the problem before evaluating a trigonometric expression.

What is the difference between log and ln?

Log uses base 10, while ln uses base e. Therefore log(100) is 2, and ln(e) is 1.

Can this calculator use scientific notation?

Yes. Enter values such as 6.02e23 or 1.5e-6. The constant e is also available by itself as Euler's number.

How do I calculate a factorial?

Place an exclamation mark after a nonnegative integer, such as 7!. Large factorials can exceed the range of ordinary JavaScript numbers.
