Salary calculator and pay converter

Enter an amount paid by the hour, day, week, two weeks, half month, month, quarter, or year. The calculator converts it to the other common pay periods using your work schedule. Results are gross pay before taxes, payroll deductions, bonuses, commissions, and overtime.

Hourly to annual salary

Multiply the hourly rate by hours worked each week and by 52 weeks. At $50 per hour and 40 hours per week, the unadjusted annual equivalent is $104,000.

annual salary = hourly rate x hours per week x 52

Annual salary to hourly pay

Divide annual salary by 52 and then by weekly hours. A $62,400 annual salary at 40 hours per week is equivalent to $30 per hour before accounting for unpaid time off.

hourly equivalent = annual salary / (52 x hours per week)

Biweekly versus semimonthly pay

Biweekly means every two weeks, normally 26 pay periods per year. Semimonthly means twice per month, normally 24 pay periods per year. The US Department of Labor pay glossary describes semimonthly pay as two periods per month. A biweekly paycheck is therefore usually smaller than a semimonthly paycheck for the same annual salary.

Unadjusted and adjusted results

The unadjusted column assumes 52 full working weeks. The adjusted column subtracts the entered holidays and vacation days from scheduled workdays and treats them as unpaid. If your salary, holidays, or vacation days are paid, use the unadjusted amount for gross-pay comparisons.

The US Department of Labor vacation guidance explains that federal law generally does not require payment for time not worked, such as vacations or holidays; paid leave is usually determined by the employment agreement and applicable law.

Pay-period conversion factors

This calculator uses 52 weekly periods, 26 biweekly periods, 24 semimonthly periods, 12 monthly periods, and 4 quarterly periods per year. Daily pay uses the entered days per week. Hourly pay uses both hours and days entered.

Gross pay versus take-home pay

This page converts gross salary frequencies only. It does not estimate taxes or deductions. Use the take-home pay calculator for a separate US federal, FICA, state, and payroll-deduction estimate, or the salary increase calculator to evaluate a raise.

Frequently asked questions

How many biweekly pay periods are in a year?

The standard conversion uses 26 because 52 weeks divided by two equals 26. Some calendar years or employer schedules can produce a 27th paycheck.

Is semimonthly the same as biweekly?

No. Semimonthly usually means 24 paychecks per year; biweekly usually means 26.

Does this calculator include overtime?

No. Overtime eligibility and the regular rate can depend on job classification and compensation details. This tool converts straight-time gross pay only.
